American Reunion – Review

American Reunion – Review

Review by FilmFellaJames – 3/10

So, Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Alyson Hannigan, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, John Cho, Jennifer Coolidge and Eugene Levy are back for another, hopefully final, slice of pie.

Gotta be honest, I had my reservations about this one, who wouldn’t?  The first one, American Pie, was funny and a film of the moment for its time, even by today’s standards it’s still a pretty funny picture anyway.  The second one, American Pie 2, was funny-ish and the Wedding one was, lets face it, a bit lame.  This one however is a bit sad.  Why?   Here’s why…

The film follows a reunion of the gang who in the first movie, just wanted to get laid, only this time it’s all about how they have got on since the dizzy booze fuelled days of masturbation and ogling tits.  It ain’t so much about the tits in this one as much as it is about how it all went tits up for most of the cast.

Seann William Scott and Jason Biggs produced American Reunion and it felt a bit like they, being the most successful of the gang, were doing everyone else a favour by generating some funds for their pals.  This is a nice sentiment, but the film is chock full of sentiment.  It’s obvious, clichéd and punctuated only by a few good moments involving…you guessed it, Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott.  They got all the best scenes and lines and too be honest the rest of the cast just seemed to fill up the space.  They (The rest of them.) were the familiars that you remembered from the original American Pie, but, they sure as shit ain’t memorable in this one.

If you have seen the trailer, then you don’t need to see this film.  I cant even be assed to talk about it in any length, because there simply ain’t that much to talk about.  It was nothing special, it was a bit of an auto-ran crammed full of stuff like being parents, awkward moments with younger people or awkward moments involving cast members long since forgotten.  This is a shame.  They seemed to have attempted to make a film with a bit more maturity, the grown up pie, but that’s not what made the original film special, it was the childishness that we all loved.  If the ‘Stifmeister’ wasn’t in this one, it would have sucked balls.  Not in the funny way balls could be sucked, rather the sad depressing way that a fifty cent hooker would suck the balls of a crack-head friend determined to end his life, if not for the ball sucking.

Avoid this film or watch it on DVD.  It sure as shit wasn’t worth a trip to the cinema on my precious date night.  Me and the missus should have just stayed homed and shagged instead of going to watch it, come home and then feel bad for the failure that was American Reunion.

I give this one, 3 out of 10.  One point for each of the three funny scenes with Seann William Scott and Jason Biggs.  #Bored.

One Response to American Reunion – Review

  1. Filmfella Darren says:

The problem with yet another American Pie sequel is that it reeks of desperation. Only Sean William Scott is still working on the big screen – they are all desperate to cash -in and get their faces back in the limelight, before they are forgotten forever and they have to get real jobs. Rather than that bland poster of the long lost cast seemingly having the time of their lives, The poster should be a picture of a pie stuffed with dollars under the title: PAYCHECK PIE. The tagline should read: WARNING! Pie contains knobs. I still insist that the original title should have been: Cherry Poppin’ pie – it does exactly what it says on the tin. Let’s face it, the only reunion people want to see here, is Jason Biggs getting it on with that infamous desert. They could have had Biggs in a kitchen, tempting to re-live his youth, to relieve the sexual frustration built up over ten years of marriage, by getting it on with another pie. Only this time, perhaps he didn’t know that his wife had only just taken the pie out of the oven, so he shrieks in panic at the piping hot temperature as he runs around screaming like a Looney tunes cartoon character, pie clasped to his crotch –much to the horror of the other characters who cringe in disbelieve as someone makes a bad joke like: once bitten, twice pie. I bet there isn’t a funnier scene than this in American Reunion right Jim?
