Stop! It’s Hammer Time

Top 10 Movies with a Hammer in

A while ago, I compiled a list of movies that showcased the axe in all its wondrous chopping glory. But now, we’re done with cutting stuff up. How about we bash the shit out of some other stuff. Let’s knock one out then; you know, a countdown of the top 10 movies with a hammer in, of course. Okey dokey; here it is:

The Raid – Review

The Raid – Review

Review by FilmFellaLozz – 8.7/10

This is the one film that I’ve been looking forward to in 2012. Some people can’t wait to see Prometheus or The Dark Knight Rises; but for me, The Raid was the one. Ever since the most violent trailer I’ve ever seen emerged online a few months back, it felt like the release date would never come. But it’s now arrived. Following a vigorous UK marketing campaign; would what appeared to be the action movie of the year live up to the trailer? I’m happy to say: Absolutely. It. Kicked. Ass. Big Time. Dark Shadows – Review

Dark shadows – Review

Review by FilmFellaDarren – 5.5/10

Once upon a time, Tim Burton had the ability to transport audiences to enchanting gothic fairy-tale other-worlds.  His films had such a unique ethereal atmosphere to them, so unmistakably his own style, that he was almost considered to be something of an auteur. That time has long since passed due to the directors near narcissistic insistence that every vaguely dark fairy-tale or slightly grim story ever written would benefit from Burton’s gothic stylistics. American Reunion – Review

American Reunion – Review

Review by FilmFellaJames – 3/10

So, Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Alyson Hannigan, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, John Cho, Jennifer Coolidge and Eugene Levy are back for another, hopefully final, slice of pie.

Gotta be honest, I had my reservations about this one, who wouldn’t?  The first one, American Pie, was funny and a film of the moment for its time, even by today’s standards it’s still a pretty funny picture anyway.  The second one, American Pie 2, was funny-ish and the Wedding one was, lets face it, a bit lame.  This one however is a bit sad.  Why?   Here’s why… Read more of this post

Avengers Assemble – Review

Avengers Assemble – Review

Review by FilmFellaDarren – 8.5/10

Marvel’s iconic superheroes have ceased fighting crime solo on the big screen – The world’s mightiest heroes, aka The Avengers, have finally assembled. The tentative alliance between such seasoned crime fighting stalwarts as Ironman; The Hulk; Thor; Captain America; and the less seasoned Black widow and Hawkeye seems swift and relatively slick at the start of Josh Whedon’s mega-movie, but as anyone who didn’t rush to the exits after the credits rolled on the early franchise openers for this dream-team of superheroes will know, Read more of this post

The Avengers Assemble – Review

Review by FilmFellaLozz – 8.8/10

At the very end of Iron Man back in 2008, you may recall the appearance of an eye-patched Samuel L. Jackson talking to Tony Stark about a little something called The Avengers Initiative. Well, well, well…since this time, four years have passed, and we’ve seen numerous superheroes grace the silver screen; all with their own stories, but all made for a very specific purpose. To make this movie.

It’s what fan-boys of the comics have been dreaming of. I’m no comic book fan and I haven’t really seen anything that special come from either marvel or DC, in terms of how these concepts translate into film, (bar one or two exceptions). Read more of this post

The Death of Cinema?

The Death of Cinema?

This month, cinema threw a massive curve-ball right at my face.  It hit me in the face, gave me a bloody nose and then rolled on down the street.  Filmfella comrades, Lozz, Brown and Darren all shook their heads in dismay at my giddy child-like anticipation of what I believed would be the box office slam dunk for March – John Carter.  It didn’t do as well over here or in the States as I thought it would and this opened up a plethora of dissing and “I told you so’s” from my gang.
